The following is a copy of an article found in the December 1996 issue of
ACSI (Association of Christian Schools, International) newsletter.

Christian Star Academy, a state-chartered, nondenominational Christian school, opened its doors this fall in its new location, 7 East Sugar Street, the former site of the Hannah Browning Home.  The encouragement and faith demonstrated by the Hannah Browning Board of Trustees in working with CSA have played a major role in opening those doors. For that support and trust, all those associated with CSA are extremely grateful.

The 1995-96 school year was the 15th year for Christian Star Academy CSA's first homeeducating preschoolers through upper elementary students. CSA has been operating at full capacity in its present building at 104 S. Rogers Street.  The acquisition of the Hannah Browning Home signals a new phase of Christian educational service by CSA to Mount Vernon and the neighboring communities. With over five times more floor space no available in its new site, a dual-expansion program can now begin.  Enrollment can gradually increase beginning with the upcoming school year, and the present state charter can be extended to include the middle school years. Once the school is firmly established in its new home, future plans include a variety of educational outreach programs for interested community members.  [NOTE: in 1905 Hannah Browning and her husband opened their home to two elderly women friends who had no family to care for them.  It became know as the Home for the Aged until 1953 when the name, CSA building 02Hannah Browning Home, became recognized by the State of Ohio.  It sheltered as many as 23 residents at one time.  Over the years, the principles of the Hannah Browning Home have remained the same:  to provide a real home with a Christian atmosphere for elderly ladies who meet admission requirements.  The home remained independent of state or federal aid while meeting all the requirements of both for continued uncensored operation.]

Suzanne Feasel, the administrator of Christian Star Academy, creates a “homey” learning atmosphere in this nondenominational, Christian school.  The nongraded/multi-age environment, nourished by and permeated with Christ’s love, provides a non-threatening setting for each student, where interests can be pursued, weaknesses strengthened, and abilities developed.  Not only does each child experience the skilled teaching and nurturing of Ms. Feasel and other staff members, but each child also receives encouragement and support classmates.  Such is the Christian foundation that supports the core, energy, and life of the school.

The Community spirit and cooperation, initiated by the Hannah Browning Board, is not taken lightly by CSA.  “This support is an investment in our most cherished possession:  the children of this community.”
